I talked to Haruhiko as well
and after we shook hands he smiled at me and said "Dankeschön" and he also
said that EOD will be back next year (YAY for Haru!). My girlfriend was
photographed by someone from the Astan-Staff (because of her outfit... she
had red angel wings on her Back...very cute^^), so if you see a girl with
those red wings on Astan, that's her ...anyway, I used this opportunity to
talk to Astan. They say that there will be a DVD with several videos on it,
including live footage of EOD and Blood, coming this Fall/Beginning 2005.

- report by kazu -
There was a short delay until we could actually enter the club, but then it didn't take long until the first band, Anonymous IV, started to play. I don't remember too much of their show, but it was quite significant that the stage was very small, and since the band had quite a lot of members it seemed to be very crowded up there. It was even more surprising that after Anonymous IV finished, they didn't even start to dismantle the drum set on the stage, but only covered it.
Eve of Destiny were supposed to be the 2nd band playing. This was due to the fact that some of the visitors were under 18 or even under 16 years old (there had been some problems with this on the previous Astan festival) and therefore Eve of Destiny should have been finished by midnight. They arrived a bit late, however, because apparently the organizers hadn't called their taxi on time. When they finally did arrive, they only did a very very short soundcheck and didn't seem to be too good-mooded.
The intro started and .... Haruhiko said "Happy birthday, kazu" before starting with Nervous and Innocence!!! I was.........quite surprised. And moved. And happy. And everything. The crowd was as usual, pretty motionless and stunned in the front, towards the middle people were dancing and stuff, and in the back there were some local people who must have seen Eve of Destiny for the first time.
After the 3rd song they got some technical problems, went off stage and everyone went like "eeeh.. what's the matter now...." (I think Közi tore a string on his guitar). They returned maybe 5 minutes later and were welcomed, again, by a lot of applause. As far as I remember, they had to play Garden for a Zealot twice then because of those technical problems ^^" Like last time, it got hotter and hotter in the club, there was a bit too much and too bright light shining onto the audience. Nevertheless, the mood got better and better, and some more people started dancing.
After some songs they had again technical problems (more torn strings?) and another 5-10min interruption. This way we could at least go outside and breathe some fresh air. When they could continue their show, the mood of the audience was immediately again on the same level as before the interruption. After the last regular song, You killed be first, everyone was a bit undecided whether they should shout "Zugabe", "encore" or the pseudo-Japanese "mou ichido" With a mixture of "Zugabe", "encore", and "hey hey hey" we made them play Eve of Destruction as an encore after all (hey, what would an Eve of Destiny live be without Eve of Destruction???).
All in all, they had played one song I had heard only once so far (in Berlin the day before ^^"), named Mother. It was a bit hard to dance to it though (especially when you're not blessed with the greatest talent for dancing). And then this new version of Desperado in which you can't make out the rhythm *this* easily.
I felt a little bit sorry for the 2 bands that played after Eve of Destiny, Tears of Mystigma and Spark'n Bow. Everyone seemed to wait for Eve of Destiny's autograph session, and there were hardly any people actually watching those bands. I myself went outside for a while too, or sat down in the back of the club. Everything just got too exhausting. Eve of Destiny returned for their autograph session maybe 30-40 minutes later (??? I lost all my sense of time in those 3 days - I have no real idea how much time had passed). It seemed to me as if they were signing stuff for an eternity. Plus, the latest trend among fans seems to be the question if they could hug both members once ^^"
I was sitting somewhere in the back throughout the whole session, being tiiiired. Közi went straight off to the backstage area when they were finished, Haruhiko and I went to another area of the club where it was a little more quiet and where we could talk a bit. My exhausted brain didn't spit out too much Japanese anymore, however. In the end he persuaded me (successfully) into going to Leipzig and then it was already time to leave. You can easily tell that I was very, very, very glad when I fell into the bed of my hotel room and had finally the chance to catch up some sleep. But it had been one of the greatest birthdays I've had so far, and not only because the 31st of October 2004 was 25 hours long ;)))
