- report by Heilige Hexe -
I'm listening to EoD's music as I'm
writing this report... both, to get myself in the right mood and because of
some kind of strange nostalgia, when I think this year's European tours are
over. Now we have to wait a few months to see them here again... It had been
a good year though. Within 4 months I was able to see 4 lives and meet up
with everyone while I was in Tokyo. Not to mention having made new, special
friendships with EoD fans. I think I'm spoiled because of all that and the
next 6 months time seems way too long and the wait absolutely unbearable...
I can say it without hesitation that Eve Of Destiny gigs are absolutely
perfect and unforgettable. The more you see them, the more you want to see.
Haruhiko and Közi have this amazing skill to create a very special, in many
ways even magical, atmosphere. From the first minutes of the show until they
leave the stage, you are hooked, hypnotized and focused only on Eve Of
Destiny.
But enough of that... Time for the actual Rostock report.
The club where the festival took place (Club MAU) is situated just a few
metres from the sea, so particularly at night, it is very nice, with the
ships waiting in the docks and the sounds of the sea.
We arrived there a little before 7 p.m. and went backstage so that Haruhiko
and Közi could finish their make-ups and have a rest before the gig. The
first band that played was Kamikaze 52 and the audience wasn't really too
impressive. By the end of their live there were maybe 40-50 people. Since
EoD were to play next we were a little worried with the small audience but
hopeful that more people would show up in time for EoD's gig.
After some necessary equipment checks and preparations, the sounds of
I.No.Ri. were the sign that the concert started. As always, Kozi came out
onto the stage first and after a while Haruhiko joined him. At that point
the audience had already grown bigger and while it maybe wasn't the most
impressive, it was the best out of all Saturday's gigs, so it means our own
Eve Of Destiny is getting the recognition they deserve :). As much as I love
Garden Of Delight, I was very happy that EoD's audience was bigger than even
GoD's.
This time Haruhiko and Közi were dressed somewhat alike. Both wearing the
black cassocks. Haruhiko had his Alice Auaa pants underneath while Közi wore
only black stockings. Haruhiko wore the skull pendant and Közi two rosaries
and a round pendant, but I can't tell what exactly it was. Haruhiko had his
usual white make up, dark eye shadows and red/violet lipstick which was
actually a mix of two, Yuko's and mine, as he forgot to take his own to the
club ;), and this time his nails were painted black too. Kozi's make-up was
really impressive, half of his face was white, the other natural and
respectively one eye and half of his lips were also different on both sides
of his face...can't describe it better, you'll see in pics LOL. No wonder it
takes him so long to have the make-up done. So as you see, they both looked
just as great as ever.
The lights at the stage were also very good, which actually made me wish I
had switched off the flash light in my camera much earlier as the pictures
looked much better without it.
Nervous and Innocence started and immediately the whole audience started
enjoying the music and the gig. There were a few visual fans dressed in that
style but most of the audience were the local (and not ;) goths and the
likes.
Garden For Zealot becomes another of my favourite songs and I think it's
because of how Haruhiko sings/screams the "Alice" part. I know I'm repeating
myself but I love this guy on stage. He is just a-m-a-z-i-n-g!! Plus the
whole song has this darrrrk, scary atmosphere. Nice!
In the first part of the live Közi was standing to Haruhiko's right, then he
moved to his left and as always, my favourite Közi part was the solo he does
almost leaning towards the audience. Lovely!
What can I say, all of the songs were done great and while I do have my
personal favourites, I could listen to all of them over and over again. Eve
Of Destruction was the last one and I really, really didn't want them to
leave the stage. And neither did the audience. As soon as Haruhiko said 'danke
schon' and they both left, everyone started chanting, calling them back.
Sadly, there was no time for encores this time.
And that's how the last European concert for this year ended. Perfect but
short. Always too short for the fans. I hope I'll live to that day when Eve
Of Destiny concerts will last as long as The Zolge and Malice Mizer's had in
the past... Ah, to watch them for two hours...
Next European tour in the spring 2004. Keep your fingers crossed so that
everything went well with the organizing part and so that we could see them
again in many places!
