- report by Case -

After the previous night's wonderful gig in Bratislava we hoped to see an equally great one in Budapest. And although we had quite a few problems during the day after all everything turned out fine.

While the lucky other ones were sleeping, me and Hexe went to the train-station to meet Eve of Destiny. They arrived at 1 PM, we helped them put their stuff in a taxi, then d4m4g3, the party's main organizer took them to their hotel. So everything seemed fine, but then the problems began.

Around 5 PM I got a phone call from d4m4g3, that we can't get the amplifier we wanted to. And no amplifier means no concert of course. So, while d4m was running around the city, trying to get a replacement I went to pick up EoD at the hotel, tell them the bad news and take them to the club hoping that the problem is solved in the meanwhile. We were delayed, because they had to get their make-up stuff together and of course the taxi was also late, so we got in the club quite late. I was almost panicking by that time, but the first thing I was told when we arrived was, that we could get an amplifier after all from a local band, so the concert was saved. After a quick sound-check they disappeared backstage to get ready for the gig.

The club which is actually the club/bar of a hostel, has a weekly goth-industrial night every friday, so it had a regular audience and thanks to all the flyers, online reviews and articles most people already had some idea about what does EoD sound and look like. Still, we were quite worried about how many people will actually show up, but around nine o'clock the club was already crowded and the people just kept coming. There were about 130-140 people altogether, which meant full-house, since the club is rather small. The majority of the audience consisted of local goths, but of course we also had several jrock fans and the four Japanese girls from last night, also showed up.

Just as last night they began almost exactly at 10 PM, walking thru the audience to the stage, midst of wild screaming and cheering. The songs were in the same order as in Bratislava, so the first one was Nervous and Innocence, which had already been a favorite at the club's goth-industrial nights. Also there were many people who had been waiting for this day for months, so the audience was already ecstatic. :)

The weather was rather warm that day and the small concert-hall, plus the big crowd added up and it was terribly hot after a few songs. This time Közi wore a completely different costume (and as we learned later, he had yet another one in Magdeburg). He was dressed in black leather: black leather trousers with a black leather shirt, complete with a black leather tie. It looked wonderful, however it wasn't a really good choice, because of the extreme heat, he most probably would be much more comfortable in the costume he had the night before, but nobody expected the club to be this hot. Anyways, sporting his usual poker-face yet again, he didn't really show a sign of being uncomfortable with the situation. He looked as gorgeous as always, even though he couldn't finish his make-up properly (which takes him about two hours normally, as we learnt it in Bratislava) because of the time shortage caused by all the troubles during the afternoon.

The sound was really good, but the guitar wasn't strong enough and it often got lost in the background music. As usual they played the music from DAT (or mini-disc maybe?) so only the singing and guitar was live. Maybe it was also a result of the small venue and the crowd, but the atmosphere was just amazing and the whole performance was charged with energy. Many people were dancing and screaming, so they had a very strong feedback and seemingly it helped them forget about all the earlier troubles very quickly and they seemingly enjoyed the gig a lot. It was probably the best and most powerful EoD gig I've ever seen. In a festival or bigger venue some of the energy always gets lost, but here it was so concentrated you could almost feel it.

Haruhiko was walking up and down all the time, ducking down several times, giving a lot of passion into his singing, while Közi wasn't moving around much, but still seemed to be full of energy.

When they left the stage the audience was screaming, till they came back a few minutes later, after they tried to catch a breath backstage. Just like in Bratislava, the encore-song was that great, pretty hard song and when they lefty again we wanted more and more, but we knew it was over...

While during the show it didn't really show how tired they were from the lack of good sleep during the previous few days and from the heat at the club, after the gig they were half-dead. They were both lying there in the small room backstage, hardly breathing and covered in sweat. The only thing they wanted were some cold drinks first, then to get back at the hotel and have some sleep, especially since the next morning they were to leave for Germany quite early. So unfortunately now they had to skip the usual after-show chat and signing part. A lot of people prepared presents for them (we even got a lovely cake for Közi's upcoming birthday ^^) nobody was allowed to go in, so Yuko collected everything and took them backstage. They left the club about an hour later, carrying all the presents and such and getting some food on the way to the hotel.

The afterparty lasted until four o'clock and main music style was electro-industrial, but we couldn't really concentrate on what was going on and we left after a while, thinking about the gig and already waiting for the next time they come to Europe. :)

Case May 22, 2003

- report by amasanin -

So... we were back in Budapest again and managed to sleep for 4 hours and then start getting ready. Case came to pick us up and told us of all the problems but it seemed that at the time everything was well. We went to the club which is a very small venue with no real stage or backstage even (but quite cosy) and found Heilige Hexe waiting.

We went near the stage as usual and waited. Közi showed up first again and looked very handsome in that leather shirt+skirt with all his tattoos showing and with surprisingly minimal makeup. Although I enjoyed the live very much I'm beginning to miss the feel of a big stage where you don't have to worry about tripping and finding yourself part of the show, but of course a small place has a certain charm which is not easy to find and assuming EOD have a bigger fanbase soon and start playing bigger venues I'll be definitely looking back at this. Haruhiko showed up a few minutes later and Nervous and Innocence started.

The tracklist seems to have been the same as Bratislava so I'll just make note of a few other details like... THE HEAT! It was unbearable. For my standards at least it was nearing fainting levels and I was wondering how EOD were handling it under all the stage light and heavy clothing and after a better look I realised that not so good as Közi's make up was dripping from his eyes (creating a natural 'crow' effect though) and sweat was running from inside his shirt all the way to his skirt. He was drinking water like crazy and at some point when the two Japanese girls were calling out 'Közi' more than usual he turned and threw the empty water bottle to them which made the one who caught it very happy (^^~) After a while Közi was apparently so dizzy he was stumbling all the time and at some point hit his head against the edge of one of the lamps on the wall with a very loud 'bang' which made me gasp, but he kept on playing and what's more showed absolutely no emotion or sign of pain and thinking back I believe that moment will stay in my mind forever as an example of what a good performer is.

There were a few more problems like a guitar string snapping off almost from the beginning of the live and a very stubborn effect button but despite all that it really was wonderful and their power is so much when performing that 4 hours of sleep were more than sufficient. Unfortunately it proved that all that energy they give off was too much for them and after the live they couldn't see anyone which was very devastating as I had been planning to give Közi that birthday cake for a long time. I've never gotten either of them anything cause I can never really think of anything that would be special enough so this was my one gesture in a way, but I believe they dug into it back at the hotel so I suppose it served its purpose heh... Haruhiko did come out briefly for a few words after a while but they left soon after.

I didn't really think I had any more good mood left but the afterparty was a bit surprising with all the Malice Mizer (and even Gackt!) songs the DJs threw in so we all seemed to find some energy left for dancing. And then... death x__x had to sleep. We said goodbye to Hexe who was going the next day and took a taxi back. I can't really remember any more details at the moment cause I was tired + ill then and I'm also down with a temperature now so my pardons if I've missed anything important but I hope you got an idea of how both days went. Can't wait till the next time~!
