- report by Case - The days that we have been waiting for months, finally came and Eve of Destiny returned to Europe once again. :) This time for a mini-tour, playing in three different countries. Back in Bern, they already had an invitation for this year's That Spring Festival in Magdeburg, Germany to play there on the 17th of May and they decided to organize a few more gigs around that date. I was lucky enough to be able to help to organize one gig for the 15th in Budapest, Hungary (my hometown ^^) and they also announced another one in Bratislava Slovakia on the 14th. Of course our little Industry crew consisting of Amasanin and me (this time joined by Heilige Hexe from Poland and Miyu and her friend Lily from Sweden) decided to follow them around. Since Magdeburg was a bit too far from the first two cities, we decided to skip that show and concentrate on Slovakia and Hungary. Since their last concert EoD wrote two new songs and also reworked some of their older ones a bit, plus Közi finished his Izayoi no Tsuki project, while Haruhiko did a remix for a Razed in Black song, so they were quite busy and as we had to find out they also kept their brand-designer alice auaa busy.. but more about it later. The Bratislava gig was organized by Poor Mary0, singer of the pretty damn good local goth/batcave band The Last Days of Jesus and was held in Music Club Duna, near the center of the city. We arrived at the club around 8 PM, after a short walk and a dinner in the city's lovely old town. As we were reaching the club, we ran into Yuko-san (EoD's manager) and we asked when will the concert begin. She said 10 PM, so we had a lot of time to check the club. It was in a huge building's basement and it was rather big, with several smaller rooms. The concert-room would be enough for about 300 visitors I guess... around the same size as the one in Bern was, but this one had a bigger stage. As usual most of the audience consisted of local goths, but there were also several people from abroad. Beside the five of us, there were four girls from Japan and I think there were also some people from Germany too. Two of the Japanese girls were Manami and her friend whom we already knew from Bern. Before the concert the DJs were playing a lot of nice goth classics, such as Virgin Prunes, Rosetta Stone and such, while we were sitting and chatting in the bar. Then sometime after 9 PM, we walked to the stage to have front-row places. They began almost exactly at ten o'clock. During the intro first Közi walked on the stage, then Haruhiko followed him soon. As usual the first song was Nervous and Innocence, one of their best ones and later they played all their songs, including the two new ones. They also played the reworked version of the old songs, for example we could hardly recognize Desperado until the chorus part. My favorite song was the one they played after Desperado, which had a very catchy melody and some excellent guitar-parts. Before the gig we were wondering if they will wear the same costume as last year and while Haruhiko didn't change his style much (wearing his usual trousers, with a different over-coat) Közi had a totally new look. He wore a black, priest-like dress which was cut up very high at the side. He also had two rosaries to make the priest look complete, plus high platform shoes as usual. His hair-style also changed a lot, while in Bern it was reddish and kinda long, now it was all-black beside a few reddish spots here and there, and it was cut rather short in he right side, while the other side was about as long as last year. He also had a nice new tattoo on his right hand and while in Bern he had many separate guitar-pedals, now instead of those he a had one table with lotsa buttons (there should some name for it, but I don't now much about sound-equipment.. o_O) And the biggest surprise was the guitar itself. It wasn't akazukun or the new red one he had last year, but the one from Malice Mizer's Gardenia PV! The sound was quite good, especially the guitar, so you could hear everything he played clearly and Haruhiko's singing was as good as always and he seemed to enjoy the gig a lot... as always. He is the kind of performer who so obviously loves and enjoys what he does, while Közi is exactly the opposite: he always has a poker-face on stage, so you can never tell what is going on inside his head. The audience loved the show a lot. The majority of the first row consisted of people who came to see them from far far away, so they were all ecstatic and were responsible for the great atmosphere with all screaming and such, but the rest of the audience also seemed to enjoy the gig a lot. The lightning was pretty good which also helped just as the smoke that was floating through the stage all the time (it looked good then, but unfortunately ruined many pictures). They played for about 40-45 minutes, then left the stage. We weren't sure if they will come back or not, since they never did before, but after a one or two minutes they appeared again and played yet another song. This last song was also a new one and a damn great one too. Then they left the stage and the DJs took over, but for a long while, we were still under the influence of what just happened. It was an excellent gig, the new songs were great and the reworked ones sounded even better than before, so we were all very very pleased. We sat down at the bar to rest for a while, but a bit later we were invited backstage and some more surprises awaited us... first of all we had to realize that Közi picked up some basic English since last year (and for our greatest amazement Közi told us that he likes Industry a lot and checks it every day! ^o^) and also Haruhiko speaks English much better than we thought in Bern. They were very nice with everyone (they even offered us some of their pizza ^^) and we chatted with them for a while (and Hexe surprised them with her excellent knowledge of Japanese). We got a copy from the flyers they made for the May Tour and for the upcoming gigs in July and I checked some details about the next day with Yuko (too bad both Amasanin and me ran out of film by that time, so we couldn't take any pics.. :\) Later they left the club and went back to their hotel to have some sleep till the morning. We stayed in the club and were sitting there till it closed around 3 o'clock, then went to Bratislava's rather unfriendly main station to wait till 5.23 for our train back to Budapest. The trip was rather long and tiresome, but we didn't really mind, because we had many nice things to remember and we knew we gonna see EoD again that evening. :) Case May 21, 2003
- report by amasanin -
After months of waiting the first live of the EOD spring tour was finally happening. Gathering from all over Europe again, we arrived at the venue just as it was opening and found ourselves in a rather small kind of underground place with many small areas and wooden tables and, unlike last time, took a seat as it was quite early and the place was almost empty. We spoke to some people among whom were two girls who had come from Japan to see Közi in EOD for the first time. I for one was very glad to see them there considering all the bashing Japanese fans have done because of EOD's overseas targeting and Közi was also very grateful. After a drink or two people started arriving and gathering at the front of the stage so we hurried over there to make sure we were in the front row. After a bit more waiting and great anticipation, the standard intro music started playing and Közi stepped on stage. Appearance wise he was very different from what he's done so far in EOD - a black spiked wig (which he took off later but his own hair was also black) and a long black straight dress (don't imagine anything too conservative though lol) and two rosaries hanging at the front which reminded me of him back in the Memoire days in those cemetery pictures, and as a big surprise he had his white guitar (Shirozuko I believe is the name). He threw some picks at the audience and waited. Some cheering later Haruhiko also walked on stage in his usual attire, said good evening, and after even more cheering the live began. First song as a rule was Nervous and Innocence followed by Iconoclast this time slightly different as Közi kept on playing during the pause just before the vocals come in. Everything was very powerful and they looked full of energy which kept me on edge throughout the live despite lack of sleep and a very long day of travelling. Third song was Garden for a Zearlot but done in a completely different vocal style. Haruhiko outdid himself with all the screaming and over the top singing and I kind of preferred it this way (despite all that however I could actually understand more of the lyrics than usual). Fourth song was new (I'm not sure if I'd heard it in Bern or not) and then followed Dead Alive which was absolutely amazing sans Kozi's guitar problems which lasted a good while, but even so he was headbanging away. Small pause for a mini guitar sound check and then followed the second new song which again I'm not sure if I'd heard in Bern or not. Seventh song was a bit dodgy... it sounded familiar but... ah wait - it's Desperado, but a completely different version of it. With very slow paced vocals, the only thing familiar was the chorus, and unlike the original which is almost epic this sounded like a lament. I should also say that Közi's guitar work for it is very different to that of the original. Then came the song which I fell in love with in Bern and unfortunately have no title for - fast, powerful, nicely structured and very melancholy [supplement= having a look at the Bern tracklist I believe the name of the song is Eve of Destruction]. And after that there was pause and it looked like they were done but Haruhiko mumbled a quick 'there'll be one more song later' and they left the stage. A few minutes after they did come back looking very revived somehow and played that one more song which was also new and very good. And then it was really the end unfortunately. When the after-party started people began to go backstage but I and Case decided not to so we wouldn't bother them too much and Heilige Hexe stayed with us, but a while later their manager came and invited us over so we went, said out hellos, were offered some pizza (which I couldn't eat cause it was piled with meat x__x) and had a few words with them. They were very friendly as always and lots of funny things were happening all the time, like Közi showing me the new flyers and pointing out which LDD is him and which Haruhiko (which was dead obvious), them having a laugh over Haruhiko's LDD at Industry's profile page with the sunglasses and all, Közi knocking down a lamp as he stood up for a picture and Haruhiko whining about Közi taking 2 hours to put his makeup on and then having a completely blank expression when I said that he's actually fast and I take even longer. Haruhiko is a very funny person in the way he says things, there's like a big pose full of significance before every sentence and you just burst laughing afterwards cause you never expect what he ends up saying. And as if all that wasn't enough excitement for one night I got a 'very nice' from Közi - in English - about the profile LDDs and then when I asked where Akauzu-kun is he said 'at my home' again in English and in a very good accent may I add (Amasanin-> stupidly impressed +_+) and then he finally promised to bring it next time ^^!!! So after some more talking, hanging about and the like we said we'll see them tomorrow and went back to the club. We had some mini adventures that night and by the time we were back in Budapest we were all terribly exhausted and it was almost noon of the following day so we run off to get 4 hours of sleep (or less for some) and get ready for the Budapest live...
